Anna Records - "Money (That's What I Want) Recorded By Barrett Strong

Berry Gordy had recently established the Tamla label, with Motown following, and licensed the song "Money (That's What I Want) to Anna Records in 1960. That year the song peaked at #2 on the R & B chart and #23 on the Pop chart. The song was listed as one of Rolling Stones "500 Greatest Songs Of All Times". The song has since been covered by a host of other artists - The Beatles, The Kingsmen, The Flying Lizards, The Rolling Stones, Freddie and the Dreamers and more.

Anna later joined Motown staff as a songwriter. Her biggest hits were "Baby, I'm For Real" and "The Bells" by The Originals co-written with Marvin Gaye, Iris Gordy and Elgie Stover. She also co-wrote two songs on the Marvin Gaye album What's Goin On - "Flyin' High (In The Fiendly Skies) and "God Is Love". She also wrote and co-wrote several other songs recorded by The Miracles, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, David Ruffin, The Four Tops, Edwin Starr.
